
Community Leader and Cable Industry Pioneer Jon Oscher Passes Away at 93
CARTERSVILLE, GA — February 20, 2026 — It is with great sadness that the family of Jon Oscher announces his passing on Thursday, February 19, 2026. A visionary entrepreneur, dedicated philanthropist, and pillar of the Cartersville community, Mr. Oscher leaves behind a legacy defined by his passion for education, the arts, and the advancement of North Georgia.
Born in the Bronx, NY, on December 17, 1932, Mr. Oscher moved to Chatsworth, GA, as a child. He was a graduate of the Tennessee Military Academy and later earned his degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. A lifelong Yellow Jacket, he was a fixture at Georgia Tech football and basketball games for decades.
A Career of Innovation and Service
Mr. Oscher was a true pioneer in the cable television industry, successfully operating cable systems for 32 years. While his business acumen helped shape the modern media landscape in the region, his true passion was philanthropy. He believed deeply in giving back to the communities that supported his family, a mission that will be carried forward through his family foundation.
A Champion for the Arts and Sciences
An avid collector of cars and fine art, Mr. Oscher was a vocal advocate for cultural enrichment. His influence can be seen across the region’s premier institutions, where he worked tirelessly to ensure that history, science, and the arts remained accessible to all.
Family and Memorial Information
Jon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Dot. His memory is honored by:

• Grandchildren: Connor McClain (Elle) and Reilly McClain Santoro (Joel)
The family will hold a private graveside service. A public celebration of life for the entire community will be held at Booth Western Art Museum on Monday, March 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
