SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: Denise Smith\, Ph.D.
DESCRIPTION:Pictures in Stone: The Rock Art of Northern GA\nStories have been written in stone by every culture around the world\, from the earliest mark-making to modern graffiti. Learn more about how different cultures in Georgia have left their mark from Dr. Denise Smith\, Associate Dean for the Schools of Communication\, Design\, and Liberal Arts at Savannah College of Art and Design. Sites from Track Rock Gap to Stone Mountain will be the focus of discussion. \nThis lecture is free for members. $7 for not yet members. \nGet Tickets Here\nGet to Know the Speaker\n \nCurrently serving as an associate dean at the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Atlanta location\, Dr. Smith has been a professor of art history and a college administrator for over 25 years.  Her field of interest is the rock art of North America\, images painted or carved into rock surfaces – usually by indigenous people.  To prepare for her career\, she studied Art with a concentration in Art History at Colorado State University\, then finished with a Master’s degree from the University of Colorado\, and a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of New Mexico.  She currently serves on the executive committee of the Eastern States Rock Art Research Association\, as well as one of the reviewers for North American publications for the Rock Art Review\, the flagship professional journal for the field.  She has published numerous articles and papers throughout her career\, but dreams of publishing a book when her administrative duties permit.
