SUMMARY:Cemetery Tour
DESCRIPTION:Discover Bartow County’s History: Evening Tours of Oak Hill Cemetery!\nStep into the past with the Bartow History Museum and the Woodland High School Fine Arts Department during an evening of storytelling at historic Oak Hill Cemetery. Meet the figures who shaped Bartow County’s history – including Amos Akerman\, Dr. William H. Felton\, Aaron Hazelwood\, Gertrude Weaver\, Lewis Tumlin\, Louisa Cecilia Stovall Shelman\, and more – as their stories are brought to life. \nTours depart every half hour from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.\, with each tour lasting about an hour. \nAbout Oak Hill Cemetery:Established around 1838 as the burial ground for the Ebenezer Methodist congregation\, Oak Hill is one of Cartersville’s most historic landmarks. Though many early graves are unmarked\, the site remains a place of memory and legacy. In 1869\, the Cartersville town council designated the “Old Methodist Cemetery” as a public burial ground\, officially naming it Oak Hill just a few years later. \nImportant Ticket Information:\nRegistration is required. Tickets are $15 and will not be sold at the cemetery on the day of the event. If you do not have a ticket in advance\, please do not come to the cemetery\, as we will not sell cash-only tickets. The only ways to purchase tickets are through the Bartow History Museum gift shop or our website. \nSPONSORED BY:\n \nGet Your Tickets Here

SUMMARY:An Evening In Oak Hill
DESCRIPTION:Take A Tour Through One of Bartow County’s Oldest Cemeteries\nSpend an evening with the Bartow History Museum and The Grand Theatre exploring the grounds of Oak Hill Cemetery\, and learning about the lives and legacies of some of Bartow County’s notable citizens. \nTours are approximately one hour in length and will depart every half hour beginning at 5:00 p.m. Last tour is at 7:00 p.m. \nTickets for the cemetery tour are $15. Member discount applies. \nGet Tickets Here\nAbout Oak Hill Cemetery\nOak Hill Cemtery holds rich history within the confines of its many paths. Burials at the cemetery reach back to around the year 1838 when the Ebenezer Church\, a Methodist Congreation\, was organzied on the hilltop just off Erwin Street near Cassville Road. Unfortunately\, many of the early graves no longer have markers\, but depressions in the ground and brick borders give clues to their locations. Some time around 1869 the Cartersville town council voted to adopt the the “old Methodist Cemetery” as a public burial ground.  Within four years of its adoption as a public space\, it was given the offical name of Oak Hill. \n  \n  \nEvent Sponsored By:
