Georgia Trail of Tears Association General Meeting & JB Tate Memorial Lecture: Exploring Lower Town Cherokee History

The Georgia Trail of Tears Association (GA TOTA) invites the public to its July 2025 General Meeting and annual JB Tate Memorial Lecture at the Bartow History Museum in Historic Downtown Cartersville, Georgia.

This year, Dr. Alice Taylor-Colbert, a noted historian specializing in Southern and Cherokee Studies, will present a lecture titled Lower Town Cherokee Citizens – History and Fate.

Dr. Taylor-Colbert holds a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in American Studies from Emory University. She has held leadership roles at five universities, including Campus Dean at the University of South Carolina Union. A retired History Professor, trained curator, archivist, and former museum director, she served on the editorial board of the Journal of Cherokee Studies for over 30 years and is a past president of the Georgia Association of Historians. Currently, she consults for historical and humanities organizations and leads grant-funded strategic projects.

This meeting and lecture will replace the Bartow History Museum’s regularly scheduled Lunch & Learn program.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees may join in person or via Zoom. Find the Zoom link and event details at GA TOTA Events under the July 12th meeting.

Join us for an engaging exploration of the rich history and legacy of the Lower Town Cherokee Citizens.

We look forward to welcoming you!
