Join us for an exciting Lunch & Learn at the Bartow History Museum this March, featuring Jeff Bishop, Director of the Funk Heritage Center. Jeff will present his research on the search for Fort Means, a significant Cherokee Removal fort located between Bartow and Floyd Counties.
In this compelling presentation, Jeff will delve into the historical context of Fort Means, its role during the Cherokee Removal, and the ongoing efforts to uncover its location. His expertise provides a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of this pivotal moment in both local and national history.
About Jeff Bishop:
Jeff Bishop is the Director of the Funk Heritage Center at Reinhardt University in Waleska, Georgia, an official site on the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. With 25 years of experience in historical research, writing, and editing, he has authored numerous books and reports on Southern U.S. and Cherokee history. His work with the National Park Service and the Trail of Tears Association has focused on Cherokee Removal sites in Georgia. Previously, he served as Executive Director of the McRitchie-Hollis Museum and Historic Train Depot in Newnan. Additionally, he has been involved with the Georgia Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association, serving as President and currently as a board member.
