Exploring the History and Legacy of Juneteenth
The Bartow History Museum will host its June Lunch & Learn featuring a program by Seneca Vaught on the history and significance of Juneteenth. The presentation explores Juneteenth from the emancipation of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, through its establishment as a federal holiday, and considers how it fits within the broader landscape of cultural celebrations, while highlighting its enduring historical importance and relevance today.
Admission is free for museum members and $9 for non-members.
About the Speaker
Seneca Vaught is Professor of History at Kennesaw State University and an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersection of culture and policy. His work emphasizes the use of historical methods in community engagement, historical preservation, and public policy projects.
