From Obscurity to National Fame: The Remarkable Life and Legacy of Reverend Sam P. Jones!
Join us for a lecture by Reverend Scott Shepard on the life and legacy of Reverend Sam P. Jones, a key 19th-century revivalist.
Jones, who overcame personal tragedies and alcoholism, went on to become a national figure in evangelism. Inspired by his father’s dying wish, he abandoned his past and devoted his life to preaching. He reached an estimated 25 million people, converting hundreds of thousands, before his untimely death in 1906.
Among his notable converts was Thomas R. Ryman, a wealthy steamship captain who built the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville to accommodate Jones’ large audiences. This historic venue remains a prominent landmark today.
The lecture is free for members and $9 for non-members.
