The Origins of the Chenille Industry in Northwest Georgia and Bartow County.

In keeping with the theme of our current temporary exhibit, Thread by Thread: Northwest Georgia’s Tufted Textile Industry, our January Lunch & Learn will focus on textile history. For this particular lecture, Randy Patton, Professor of History at Kennesaw State University, will be presenting on the topic of the chenille industry in Northwest Georgia and Bartow County.

Randall Patton holds the Shaw Industries Distinguished Chair in History at Kennesaw state University. He is a native of Northwest Georgia,  received his B.A. from UT-Chattanooga, and his MA and PhD degrees from the University of Georgia. His publications include Carpet Capital: The Rise of a New South Industry (1999), Shaw Industries: A History (2002), Working for Equality: The Narrative of Harry Hudson (editor, 2015), and Lockheed, Atlanta, and the Struggle for Racial Integration (2019).
